Connection to your VM
Installation instructions for a virtual server in SwitzerlandSwissInfoCloud cares about the security of your data, so all connections to data centers and all tools are encrypted. Using the Administration portal https://ap.swissinfocloud.ch you can securely manage your infrastructure in the cloud. The console allows you to create/delete/change settings for virtual servers, create backup copies (Snapshots).
To get started, we recommend changing the password and establishing a VPN connection..
VPN connection.
For a secure connection to console, you must establish a VPN connection.
If you do not have FortiClient VPN installed on your computer, download and run this program:
https://www.swissinfocloud.ch/downloads/vpn/FortiClientSetupx64.exeOpen uploaded file, after that, the installation window will open. Agree to the license agreement and click "Next".
In the next window, select "Secure Remote Access" and complete the installation.
Next run the program.
Click "Remote Access" -> "Configure VPN" and setup the connection as follows:
Connection Name: Any
Description: Any
Remote Gateway: VPN.SWISSINFOCLOUD.CH
Click "Apply" and then "Close".
Next, enter your username, password and click "Connect".
Wait until the secure connection is established.
Administration portal
Once the VPN is connected, you can use Administration portal.
In browser, open the page: https://ap.swissinfocloud.ch
Enter your username and password, then click “Sign in”
After logging in to the portal, you can create virtual servers using virtual machine templates. The portal is available in many languages. To switch to English, click on the globe icon in the upper right corner and select “English” from the list.
Creating virtual server
*Please create a virtual network before starting to create a VM.
In the lower left corner click on the link "CREATE"
In the menu that appears, click on "AUTONOMOUS VIRTUAL MACHINE" and "QUICK CREATION". Enter server name, select appropriate template, enter administrator password and click on the button “CREATE VM”

Creating a virtual machine will take several minutes.
You can view the status of your virtual machine by clicking on the “VIRTUAL MACHINES” icon on the left side of the screen.After the machine is created, you can do the following with it:
· Check used resources
· Connect via console access (CONSOLE)
· Connect via RDP (DESKTOP)
· Pause virtual server (PAUSE)
· Restart virtual server (RESTART)
· Shutdown off virtual server (SHUTDOWN)
· Stop virtual server (STOP)
· Create a backup of the virtual machine (CHECKPOINT)
· Change virtual machine configuration (CONFIGURE)
· Attach DVD images from the library (ATACH DVD)
· Attach additional disk (ATACH DISK)
Connecting to a virtual machine through the console
To connect to the virtual machine console, click on “Virtual Machines” in the left pane, click on the name of the machine, click on “CONNECT”, select “Console”.
Open the downloaded file YourServerName-Console.RDP
RDP server connection
To connect to a virtual machine via RDP (remote desktop), click on “Virtual Machines” in the left pane, click on the name of the machine, click on “CONNECT”, select “Desktop”.
Open the downloaded file YourServerName-RDP.RDP
In the browser, open the page https://pass.swissinfocloud.ch
Change PasswordEnter the username and password you received, enter the new password twice, which will be known only to you. A new password must contain at least 8 characters, upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters.
Click on “Submit”
You received the message “Your password is successfully updated.” The password has been changed. For all further connections, use it.
